WEEK 7

Room 2 have had a very busy term so far. We have had the dental nurse visit, Rippa Rugby, a Day Trip to Waiuta, testing and our Halloween dress up day. We are coming to the end of the year very quickly and some of us are even starting to talk about Christmas and our Santa lists. We will be putting together a school newsletter so keep an eye for that at the end of the year. Check out some of our photos from Waiuta.:)

Our Topic this term is space. Today we had a scavenger hunt to find out new facts. Here are some of our ideas.

MEASUREMENT

MEASUREMENT This term we are looking at measurement for maths. We are learning about comparing lengths, using meters and centimeters and making estimates. One of our tasks was to follow directions from Mrs C to draw a boat using meters, feet and centimeters. Here are some photos.

How Maui Slowed The Sun

Great assembly today Room 2. Here is a display of our Maui and the sun pictures and writing. Feel free to come and read these any time. :)

Today we made rain gauges. Rain gauges are used to measure how much rain falls over a certain amount of time. We made them as part of our Seasons and Weather topic.

ARMY VISIT

Today we got to go and visit the Army. We got to have a look through the trucks, in the ambulance and they even cooked us some pikelets. Yesterday we got to sit in the big helicopter too. We wrote some stories and poems about it. Here is one Liam wrote. A - At the army, people travel around the world in Unimogs and army trucks. R - Running around in the bush, some army men are ambushing the enemies. M - Men in the bushes getting closer. Y - Young guns that have not been used before. The army has just bought them. In maths we have been learning to give directions using the words forwards, backwards, right, left, quarter turns and half turns. Today we drew designs using shapes and then gave our buddy the instructions using these words. Some of us had similar pictures and that showed that we gave great instructions.

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you have all had a great holiday. The kids have all come back with lots of stories from their holidays and are nice and refreshed. Hope you enjoy this small video of room 2 new pets and there is some cool art work that we did with Mrs Wallace. On Tuesday we did some art work with room 2 and Mrs Wallace. The first thing that we did was publish Room 2 writing and we got a partner and then we took a picture of what we were wanting to use but this time we used Room 2 pets and then we would pick a position to put them on their pets. With our partners we would take a picture of them in a position.Then we would put the sim card in and we would go on Pixirl Editor and it will say create a image,open this from URL and then you would click on URL and then you can pick the person image and then you double clicked the background button and then you can start going around the outside of the person and every now and then you need to save it as a transparent and then it would take a long time and then when you are finished you save it and then put background and then you put a layer over top of your background and then you save it as a PDF and then that is your picture. Today we started making our pinatas we will use at our class party.  Tomorrow we are going to put our final two layers of paper on and paint them.  Then we will write out the steps we followed to make them.  We had to work in buddies and discuss the techniques we were going to use.

NAMING OUR AXOLOTL'S

Room 2 have come up with  some different names we like for our Axolotls.  Please leave a comment telling us which one you like the most. The names are Barry, Kristov, Tim, Cocoa and Big Blue.

Room 2's New Pets

This week we have welcomed 2 new additions to our class.  The children had to guess what kind of animal it was using the clues.

None of us could work it out, so Mrs C gave us some more clues.  Then we played hang man to guess the name of them.  Even then most of us had no idea what an Axolotl was.  Mrs C thinks she will take a wee while to get used to them but we think they are great!!!!

Week 1

Welcome back to the new year in Room 2.  We have had a great start to our Term and are already working hard on learning new routines.  We have included some photos of us practicing our independent reading activities and working with others.
